Nine o’clock, Halloween night

Trick or treat, back to front. Knock on a door: you might get a sweet, or something might come out for you. Ghosts haunt the graveyard, a banshee waits at the old house up the lane, and something prowls the high street. Don’t open the crypt, and be home before midnight. Run (Shift) to get away. Watch for black cats and crows. Pick up candles, broomsticks and wands, and find a toadstool, a raven’s feather and an eye of newt for the witch’s cauldron at her cottage, hidden in the woods off the castle road. Sound on.

• PC: click to look with the mouse, W A S D to walk, Shift to run (until you’re out of breath), E to knock or search, Q to use a wand, C to crouch (with your lantern out and away from the street lamps, you’re hidden), hold B to look behind you, V to see yourself from behind, M map, Esc or P to pause.
